The .300 Blackout is one of the newest rounds to hit the rifle-shooting world. Like many of the calibers we have discussed, the original reason for creating this round was solely due to military needs, with this particular need being to have the ability to shoot a .30 caliber bullet out of an M4 styled weapon with only needing to change the barrel. Also, the military wanted to keep the 30-round magazines.

Starting in 2009, Advanced Armament Corporation (AAC) began development of the .300 Blackout in cooperation with Remington. The need? The US military was wanting the ability to shoot a 7.62x39 styled round out of an M4 Carbine/AR-15 styled rifle. What was being discovered is that, with advancements in body armor and vehicle protection, the .223/5.56 NATO rounds didn’t contain the super and sub-sonic abilities of the 7.62x39. This was especially true for Special Ops groups running covert missions in Iraq and Afghanistan. To switch over to a complete 7.62x39 system and step away from the 5.56 round would be too costly. Also, the need to completely overhaul an M4 to accept a 7.62x39 for a single mission would be too time consuming and more hassle than needed. Therefore, the .300 Blackout was birthed. In simple terms, the .300 Blackout is simply the .300 Whisper on steroids. While the .300 Whisper is popular in single shot handguns, it lacked the power to operate effectively in M4s. SO, what AAC did was to enhance the bullet design and improved its performance, allowing it to operate without problem in standard M4/AR 15 mags. The 300 Blackout was first put to use in 2011.

Each box contains 250+ once fired brass shell casings. This is unprocessed brass sourced from commercial shooting ranges. It has been washed and polished, but not resized and may still contain the spent primer. Head stamps are mixed 300 Blackout with up to 20% .223/5.56. This brass contains different manufacturer's headstamps. It is recommended that all brass be inspected, prior to being reloaded and fired.
