Introduced by Winchester in 2001, the .300 WSM (Winchester Short Magnum) had some supposed advantages over the .300 Winchester Magnum which made avid big game hunters scratch their heads. However, since its release, the .300 WSM has become an extremely popular magnum cartridge because big-game hunters and handloaders, have discovered it works well with a variety of propellants and bullets to provide good accuracy and high velocity for the amount of propellant burned.

To say that is works well as a hunting round is an understatement. Because it is a light weight round, it’s recoil is relatively small, considering it is still a magnum round. For hunting, the .300 WSM can be loaded with bullets weighing from 130 grains to 200 grains. The cartridge’s short case and neck (which is still longer than the .300 Win. Mag.) means that bullets weighing 180 and 200 grains will protrude into the usable propellant space. But the .300 WSM case is spacious enough to hold more than 70 grains of propellant with the base of a bullet seated below the case neck. Yet only about 0.2 inches of the bullet’s base lies below the bottom of the case shoulder with a cartridge overall length (C.O.L.) of 2.85 inches. Whichever you prefer, the .300 WSM or the .300 Winchester Magnum, it’s fun to watch shooters debate over which is better.

Each box contains 25 once fired brass shell casings. Headstamps are mixed. This is unprocessed brass sourced from commercial shooting ranges. The casings have been washed and polished, but not resized and may still contain the spent primer. It is recommended that all brass be inspected prior to being reloaded and fired
